History of EFR
Charles McKenzie, Founder and CEO, began this organization wanting to make a difference throughout his community after spending his early youth years being a part of the problem. This organization began shortly after the creation of his first anti-violence organization, Cease Fire, at the age of 15. His main goals have encompassed helping communities in Chicago and their members in any way possible and helping high-risk individuals have a fresh start. Many individuals within his community rely on him and his team to be their go-to when in need whether it is making calls to fix street lights or even shoveling snow. His organization has also been called upon by Chicago's Mayors office to help patrol events happening in the Downtown area. His philosophy includes “A mind is a terrible thing to waste. If young people do not have anything to do they will find something to do.” Because of this, he ensures to include youth of all ages and has even begun to expand his organization to other neighborhoods in the Chicagoland area.
“I used to be part of the problem in the community, but now I am part of the solution.”
